Amsterdam, Netherlands - June 9-11 2016

Featured in this little weekend trip is myself, Niamh, Aisling, and Yasmin. I met all of these lovely ladies at my internship! Niamh and Aisling are full Irish and Yasmin is half. They're pretty cool I guess.

The evening before our flight, we made our way to Aisling's residence because her kind mother offered to take us to the airport... at 4:30am! eeeeeeeeeee.

Day 1:

We took a train to town and then took the tram to our Hostel.

We checked in to our hostel and were then asking the lady at the desk to tell us places we should go, how to get there, and figuring out the map. We were taking foreverrrrr and there was this fella standing behind us, so I turned and apologized. (He shows up again later, so you'll want to remember him) We finally decided where to go and hit the city! We wanted to find food because we were starving, and ended up in a lovely grocery store where we each bought our own little things to eat. There was a park next to us, so we had ourselves a cute little picnic.

we HAD to take pics with this strangers cute bike

there were several of these cuties parked around

So... there are loads of canals everywhere! And 65889 times as many bicycles. And some great foto opportunities.

Little did we know that the 'I amsterdam' sign was right next to us! How convenient

We then spent probably at least an hour taking pictures with each letter..and the trick was getting no other human in the picture with us.

Here is the result:

I mean how else are you supposed to pose?

We finally moved on from the giant letters (which were quite difficult to climb) and ran in to some paddleboats!!! Obviously we had to do it.

After paddleboats, we ventured our way through more streets and stopped at a few little markets (they were looking for some drinks for the evening) and then went back to the hostel as they wanted to get ready for the evening.

CHECK OUT MY COOL NEW SHOES!!!!

We ended up just staying at the hostel, ate some snacks in the courtyard and then we went into the breakfast/bar/eating/hang out area where we continued to drink (I know what you're thinking-- no worries, I had my water bottle). Now the rest of the evening was a right laugh! hehe
Niamh spilled her drink and went to the bar to get a towel. As she was wiping up the table, someone else spilled their glass 2 tables over from us. As I was only drinking water and still very aware of my surroundings, I told Niamh to go give them the towel. Minutes later... one of the guys from that table brought some flowers (which were on another table) over to us and said "I got these flowers for you all". And he sat and talked with us for a few minutes and returned to his table.
.... within 5 minutes he returned with the rest of the guys from his table and they all sat with us. Remember the fella waiting behind us when we were taking foreverrrrr at the desk?? Well he was one of them and he sat right next to me. The best part was that they were all Irish! 2 from Galway and one from Dublin.

Niamh specifically took this picture for you Mommy.

Eventually Yasmin moved over to the other side of the table and was talking with Sean. This left me alone with Andrew-- where we just talked and ate the rest of Aisling's Hummus and were thoroughly entertained by what the others were doing! See foto below:

I'm not sure how or why the Notebook came up, but Aisling and Niamh re-enacted some scene from it and told Sean and Yasmin to re-enact it... which they did (this is what you are seeing in foto above). And they kept re-enacting over and over! Aisling and Niamh were getting a kick out of it and were so happy that they brought these two together.
Eventually everybody wanted to leave... so we went out and were walking the streets when we came upon a McDonald's. Next thing I knew Aisling and Niamh had vanished inside. I went in and they had skipped the queue (which was quite long) and were already ordering! This made me giggle.
So they ate, and we returned back to the hostel and went to sleep.

Day 2:
We were off to discover more of the city. We learned that "coffeeshops" are not actual coffee shops... they are shops that sell weed. dun Dun DUN. So... now you know.

*gulp*

Our table we sat at the night before. And the flowers

They sold GIGANTIC Nutella is several pastry shops. They were about 50 euro

There were loads of cats! And they would just be lounging in store windows are on tables like this cute fella!
We then walked through the Red Light District and visited a small museum called Secrets of the Red Light District. It was very informative of what the girls are doing everyday and how these are their actual jobs and they have to pay taxes and everything. It was very interesting.

Check out this GIANT baby!!! And it even had wings! So cute!

There were 3 of them standing in this boutique and each piece of clothing was like 300 euro! oh daaaaang!

We went back to hostel and got ready for the evening and embarked to our destination of the Ice Bar. This was pretty neat. Everything was made of ice!! The walls, the benches, and the glasses. It was a whopping -9.4 C in there! (I think that would be roughly 15 F).

They had orange juice for me!!!

Mommyyyyy... I so cold
We are next to a polor bear ice sculpture.... but you can't tell in the pic.. LOOK HARDER WILL YA?
After the Ice Bar we walked around and ran into this lady who told us to go to this dance club but it was 10 euro and we were like "naaah". We asked if there was anywhere for free and she told us to wait for a second. She came back and said YES! So we went inside for freee baby!!!! booyah! We got our groove on for a while then left. We ended up at McDonald's again and then made our way back to our sleeping corridors.

Day 3:
We went off to find "The Nine Streets" which are 3 streets that are all antique shops and stuff. A lot of cute stores... also a lot of expensive things we couldn't afford! Sad day.

Our hostel is behind me with the big yellow HOTEL sign
ahhhh dolphins!!!! .... but don't go inside. It's a coffeeshop. haha

They got some Indian and I got myself a sandwich and we ate in the middle of this big octagon shape thingy. And then we went to the Anne Frank House!!!! This was great. And it was so great that I totally forgot to take any pictures!! waaaah! But the original bookcase is there and everything was real interesting.

This chip man is hilarious!!!!
Ping-pong in the park!
We HAD to take foto with our favorite grocery store!

And you thought it was difficult to find your car in the parking lot.....
I wish I had taken a better picture of the entire parking structure FULL of bicycles!

We took the train back to the airport and Niamh had to buy a few things for gifts so I was just looking around in a souvenir shop where I purchased a little trinket and the register man guessed where I was from (I can't remember his first guess) and I said no... the United States. And then he said "Colombia?" And I was like WHAAT?!?! NO WAY!!!! HOWWW?!?! hahaha I've never gotten that! He said that he could see Colombian features in my face. Why thank you. Thank you kind sir. :)

Anyways, Niamh still hadn't showed up so I went looking for her and she wasn't able to purchase anything without her boarding pass (which Aisling had) and so we waited a while in the queue and then finally made it out. A lot of time had passed and so I said, "lets gooooo to our gate!" We passed the sign that said the status of our gate and it read "H3 - Dublin  Gate Closing"
AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! So I told them that our gate was closing and we tried to run! I was too weak and tired. laksdflkajslkdjf And as we made our way running through the airport, we could see through the big open windows our RyanAir plane backing up. OH NO. We made it to the gate, ran down the stairs. No workers. No queue. Nothing. Completely empty. Niamh ran to the door and waved to the plane... but it couldn't see us. Well..... great. Now what???

So we went back upstairs looking for a worker to help us out on what we should do next. Then we saw what looked like Irish people. Wait a second. "Is this flight to Dublin??" Indeed it was! We were saved!!! hahahahahah They all got mad at me and blamed me for reading it wrong because I didn't have my glasses on! hahahha But I KNOW that I read it correctly!!! But nobody else cared to read it so I have no proof. Oh well. It made for a great story and a great view of 4 girls foolishly running through the airport for a plane that wouldn't be leaving for another hour because it was delayed. *sigh*

Anywho... enjoy the video, as to which Aisling is the main star! hehe
